Everyone is welcome to participate in these beautiful prayers. We recommend that you arrive about ten minutes early to be seated and relaxed at the start of the session. For prayers with tsog offerings, it is also useful to arrive early to help set up offerings. Please feel free to bring a vegetarian offering to share.
Even if you are just curious and would prefer only to listen and observe, please feel free to drop by anytime.
Heart Jewel: Guru yoga of Je Tsongkhapa combined with the condensed sadhana of his Dharma Protector. Includes 20 minutes to meditate on Lamrim and Mahamudra. By relying upon this practice, we can purify negativity, accumulate merit, and receive blessings. In this way, we will naturally accomplish all the realizations of the stages of the path of Sutra and Tantra, and in particular we will attain a very special Dharma wisdom. Wed 6-7pm; Sun 9-10am
Wishfulfilling Jewel with Tsog: This is a more extensive version of Heart Jewel, in which we make prayers and requests to Je Tsongkhapa and our Dharma Protector, Dorje Shugden. During this practice, we make a special food offering known as a tsog offering to create a vast amount of positive energy for ourselves and others. Most Tuesdays 5:30-6:30pm. Feel free to bring a small food or flower offering.
Medicine Buddha Prayers: Medicine Buddha is a Buddha Doctor whose function is to release living beings from outer and inner sickness by bestowing blessings upon them. By relying upon Medicine Buddha sincerely, living beings in these impure times can be cured of heavy physical and mental disease, and find release from the internal pain of the three poisons; attachment, anger, and ignorance. Moreover, by practicing the sadhana of Medicine Buddha sincerely, we receive a special power of body, speech, and mind, which we can use to help others through healing actions. The first Sunday of each month, 9-10am.
35 Confession Buddhas: Thirty five Buddhas who have special powers to purify negativities and downfalls in those who recite their names with faith. This is one of many purification prayers that Buddhists engage in, in order to remove the negative potentialities we have accumulated during previous lives. In this practice we do full or half length prostrations, or simply stand with hands pressed together – just reciting the prayers we are able to purify negativity. Beginners welcome! Fri 9-10am
Offering To The Spiritual Guide: This is a special Guru yoga of Je Tsongkhapa in conjunction with Highest Yoga Tantra that is a preliminary practice for Vajrayana Mahamudra. The main practice is relying upon our Spiritual Guide as a Buddha and making praises and requests, but it also includes all the essential practices of the stages of the path, and training the mind, as well as both the generation stage and completion stage of Highest Yoga Tantra. By relying upon Je Tsongkhapa our compassion, wisdom, and spiritual power naturally increase. The 10th and 25th of every month (see our calendar for times). Feel free to bring a small food or flower offering.
Long Protector Prayers: This monthly practice consists principally of prayers to our Dharma Protector, Dorje Shugden. A Dharma Protector is an emanation of a Buddha or Bodhisattva whose main functions are to avert the inner and outer obstacles that prevent practitioners from attaining spiritual realizations, and to arrange all the necessary conditions for their practice. Dorje Shugden always helps, guides, and protects pure and faithful practitioners by granting blessings, increasing their wisdom, fulfilling their wishes, and bestowing success on all their virtuous activities. The 29th of every month (see our calendar for times). Feel free to bring a small food or flower offering.
Tara Prayers: Tara is a female Buddha, a manifestation of the ultimate wisdom of all the Buddhas. Each of the Twenty-one Taras is a manifestation of the principal Tara, Green Tara. Tara is also known as the ‘Mother of the Conquerors’. If we rely upon Mother Tara sincerely and with strong faith she will protect us from all obstacles and fulfill all our virtuous wishes. Since she is a wisdom Buddha, and since she is a manifestation of the completely purified wind element, Tara is able to help us very quickly. The 8th of every month (see our calendar for time). Feel free to bring a small food or flower offering.
Powa: Prayers for the deceased. Join us for these special prayers for the deceased. Through practicing transference of consciousness, known as ‘powa’ with faith, compassion and concentration we can transfer the consciousness of those recently deceased to a higher rebirth or to the Pure Land of a Buddha. It is customary to bring a ready-to-eat vegetarian food item or flowers. Monthly on a Tuesday, 5:30-6:30pm (see calendar for dates).
Physical offerings are ready-to-eat vegetarian food items or flowers. Fruit, vegetables, baked goods (cookies, brownies, cupcakes), boxes of tea, even bars of chocolate are common offerings. Offerings are made, not because the Buddhas need anything from us, but for the effect it has on our own mind.
